The Los Angeles Unified school district offers competitive teacher salaries compared to other large districts in the state of California.
What is the annual salary for a fully certified first year teacher with a bachelor’s degree?
The graph above is an example of a teacher's annual salary with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. As you can see, the Los Angeles district is in red, and the annual salary of a first year teacher will be making roughly $46,000 per year; more than other cities, such as Fresno, Oakland, Sacramento, and San Diego (making between $39,000 to $42,000 per year). Long Beach City brings in the largest amount of income, about $52,500 per year. With the amount that a Bachelor of Arts teacher makes, there's also additional benefits that come along with it, which you can refer to the "Benefits" tab, located on the top on this page. LAUSD increases teacher salary according to the number of units taken after a bachelors and teaching credential are earned. The more units accumulated then the higher your annual pay is. Also, the number of years of teaching come into play because the longer you've been with the district then the higher your salary goes. Being a teacher means being a long life learner. Why not get paid more for knowing more and continue studying?
The following graph shows the highest pay in LAUSD with a Master's Degree and being with LAUSD for 10+ years. Once that 10 year mark is passed the salary is maximized and the only way to go higher is with a PhD.

How to read and understand the salary table.
1. Teacher are "C Basis" pay. (Other positions in the district are B and A basis)
2. On the left hand side you will see the points required to move down on the scale and get higher pay.
3. Moving to the right tells you the number of years being employed by the district. 10 is the highest number because teachers cap at the 10 year mark. As you move down and to the right on the salary chart, then your pay increases.
4. The only way to move down is by taking extra college courses after obtaining a bachelor's degree and teaching credentials. The only way to move to the right is by staying with the district.
Example: If I have earned 28+ units after my bachelor's and credentials AND I have been with the district for 6 years then my annual salary is $50,265 which is split into 12 even checks throughout the year so that a teacher's summer is covered.
