LOS ANGELES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

           In California, LAUSD (Los Angeles Unified School District) is known to be the LARGEST public school system. In an LAUSD school environment, there is currently a wide variety of ethnic students, composing of:

          There is currently 31,748 working teachers in the Los Angeles Unified School District. These teachers are part of UTLA, which stands for United Teachers Los Angeles; UTLA is a teacher's union that represents teachers positively in negotiating their rights and benefits. 

           The Facilities Services Division is responsible for the performance of the District's current "Bond Programs", the maintenance and operations of schools, the operation of the remaining properties, and planning for future projects. Currently the District comprises:

  • 710 square miles with more than 21 thousand buildings totaling more than 75 million square feet.
  • Total student enrollment including Adult Education is 900,000.
  • 1,147 K-12 schools and 123 early education centers, adult schools, and occupational/skill centers.
  • LAUSD is divided into the North, South, East and West Districts.
